Looks like a Maple

This photo reminds me of one I made a couple of years ago while visiting the NCSU College of Veterinary Medicine campus where on a hill I found a line of maple trees, each of a different color. Like you, I too could easily find myself content to fill up a whole memory card with nothing but changing trees in autumn (and I usually do each autumn and multiple times too). I love the brilliant reds and the way they contrast as well as blend in together with other colors in your photo.

NC Artifacts

I will give this idea a test shot by posting a photo I made of what remains of empty quills from a textile mill after over 50 years of exposure to the elements outdoors. Its not photogenic but the information content might be quite useful for someone who might happen to stumble upon some of these relics while in their travels and wonder just what they were. Most folks I would hazard to guess would be (have been) totally clueless.

I think your work of documenting NC artifacts is important. Absolutely.

I wonder too about what content to post, and I worry about putting up too many flowers or whatever. I don't know how to make sense of that question.

I like taking mushroom pictures too...

...but now I have accumulated so many of these (along with a lot of other subjects too) that lately I have been trying to avoid the problem of deaded repeats... therefore I have not been posting nearly as many pictures lately but just the ones that are quite different from those I have made in the past. As for subject material I have a huge amount of photos made that are not that photogenic but their information content is great for those who might happen to be interested in some of the various subjects I often photograph, but as for the general public here in the majority of cases I feel they would be received more as clutter to sift through so these remain unposted. (Examples: archaeological relics in situ, miscellaneous textile mill relics, etc...)

That reminds me of one thing I like about taking pictures of mushrooms. They tend to stay put, even in the wind.

Thanks

Out of about 40 shots... with a slight breeze and no tripod to keep the camera steady I had about 10 shots that were in good focus and 3 of these 10 had decent backgrounds, but only this one had a lot of contrast which made the berries stand out better. Sometimes it takes a lot of pictures just to get the one I'm looking for (or close to what I was looking for.)

Good instincts

That is a striking composition. The horizontal bands of color, from top to bottom, are especially pleasing. Seems so peaceful, so tranquil, even the tree felt like resting.

Is this somewhere local?

Cool shot. I've always wondered what causes those growths on Pine trees. I wonder if it's tree cancer or something? LOL.

thank you for your comments-it was the textures that caught my eye-I think there is so much art in nature and I love capturing it on my camera.

I am creating a website so when it is up and running I will send you a link if you are interested. It is just my photography, much of what I have posted on triangle.com plus many others -mostly flowers, plants, insects, waterfalls etc.

Now I think I know what kind of camera I need to upgrade to as mine has practically become an antique already! I love the clarity the s5000 produces!
