I like the way the branches seem to weave lines and curves through all the autumn colours!

I hesistated to post this one for such a long time thinking I might get a better similar shot with greener moss but it never happened. I do know of a few other places near here with greener moss and lots of it too, but as for getting a good composition, the backgrounds have always proven to be difficult if not cluttered.

colour refelctions

Thank you for your comment. It's funny how it was the log that first attracted my attention when I was out walking and still every time I look at this photo it makes me think of the mermaid statue in the Blue Danube river!!?? But on your comment about the colours-when I was reviewing it on my laptop it was the colours in the water that made me decide to "share" it.

It looks like that site may be majorly helpful to me. I'm really excited about finding it. At first look, it appears to cover material and perspectives that are new to me. Thanks as always for your generous sharing of information.

Fall's Gold

The original is absolutely stunning! I see you have discovered how autumn's background reflections in water can add a huge amount of beautiful background to surround the subject. Wonderful job!

RE: Visual Anchor

Dont you just love it when that happens? Well, to put it in terms of photography a visual anchor is a subject in the photo that keeps your eyes fixed upon it and tends to prevents excess wandering... but I see that my comment had caused you to go wandering off to another website far away instead, and in search of...(?)

Anyway getting to the point, here is a link describing Visual Anchors:

http://digital-photography-school.com/blog/the-best-photo-tip-i-ever-received-what-was-yours/#more-1689

...and more!

Enjoy the tip! :)

Visual Anchor

I'd never heard of the term "visual anchor" before, so I googled it. One site refers to it as "java language." so I guess that explains it.

Visual Anchor

Well at least this bridge is a near-perfect representation of a visual anchor... or is it possible to have too much visual anchor?

Yep, serendipity is finding myself to be 'in the zone'.

Since I always have my camera with me at the weekends I keep an eye out for photo opportunities and if I can increase the amount of coverage area to explore without significantly increasing the travelling distances thats an added bonus. I think I was 'in the zone' for about half an hour this past Sunday just before sunset as my latest two pictures seem to suggest. I like it when I find myself to be 'in the zone'.

Actually I had just arrived at the park only moments earlier before this photo was made. As has been a habit of mine I will often take a different route back from anywhere I travel so as to double any potential photo opportunities and this one seemed to have paid off. What got me to stop and wander down into this park was the long patches of sunlight I saw as the sun was getting ready to set, and so while looking for a good subject to use in the foreground naturally I chose the gazebo and it just so happened that a patch of sunlight was still filtering in through the trees at the time this photo was made. If I had arrived even a minute later I would have missed this shot.

As for shooting into the sun, I really have not noticed any problems with digital cameras in the past. I even made a photo once while at Occoneechee Mountain with the afternoon (about 2:00pm) sun over the mountaintop blazing into the camera's lens and was surprised that the photo was not washed out as is often the case when using film cameras - never noticed any problems with the camera afterwards either so I don't think its too harmful to shoot into the sun... though I would not recommend shooting at the noon time sun directly especailly with zoom basically because I dont know what/if it would harm the camera, plus I would have no logical reason to be shooting at the noon time sun too, but as for rising or setting suns that show some color I think its fairly safe to shoot into the sun at these times.

Beautiful Shot!!!

Beautiful shot!!! Were you poised, awaiting the moment to make this shot or was it sheer luck? Is a shot like this- shooting into the sun at this angle- harmful to the lens of your camera?

It just seems you want to return to this place again, again and again, dosen't it? Especially this time of year feelings of peacefulness and serenity prevail. Thanks to all for the compliments.
