The Big Beautiful by Pamela Duncan

We read this book for Read and Go with the Parks and Rec Dept. We all enjoyed this book. We then took a bus ride to the beach and visited the places mentioned in the book. It was awesome.

"The Sugar Queen" special offer

Sunday's N&O mentioned a great offer on the "Read" page. If you post about "Water for Elephants," they'll send you Sarah Addison Allen's "The Sugar Queen." Now, that's a deal I can't pass up!

I just started reading "Water for Elephants," and it's really captivating. I'm a little worried about scenes of animal cruelty that I've heard about, but I'll steel my nerves for them.

Who else has started reading, and what do you think?

Top 10 ABNA Finalists

Two Carolina authors made it to the top 10. Erica Eisdorfer with The Wet Nurse's Tale and mine, Casting Off by Nicole R Dickson. There are now videos where the Penguin editors discuss our novels and there is a panel of four people in the novel business who have given their opinions of our work. Reviews are still appreciated but can no longer be seen as we are in the final stage of the contest. The person with the most 5 store reviews wins, however no one will know until the first week of April.

Bridge of Sighs?

How about Bridge of Sighs, by Pulitzer Prize winner Richard Russo? I've got it on my To Be Read shelf, but haven't tackled it yet -- this would be a great motivator.
