I had a busy day today - need sleep at the moment - took a vacation day and went to the 38th Annual Southeast Old Threshers Reunion at Denton Farmpark in Denton and found tons to photograph! I only uploaded a small fraction believe it or not.

Of course I realize you’re speaking tongue-in-cheek about the lunch, but I really do think certain entertainment media, past and present, have spun this warped impression that the world is swarming with “fierce creatures” just lying in wait to devour us.

I’m no herpetologist, but I suspect that an adult human is pretty formidable prey, even for a ten-foot American alligator. And although stealth attack is the typical modus operandi for alligators, I gave this fellow ample opportunity to nab me right at the water’s edge if he’d wanted. But whereas we have nature documentaries to illustrate his capabilities against even a large biped, he does not have the benefit of knowing in advance what injury we might be able to inflict upon him. And that’s an uncertainty any sensible gator isn’t likely to act upon.

Now on the other hand, the Forest Service staff report he is responsible for the death of at least one dog. So our reptile buddy isn’t entirely innocuous.

The trees on the right and I'm assuming some water on the left behind the brush give this photo an illusion of having much more topography than is actually present. Great shot!

with this subject, it's was probably smarter to not get as tight as was needed. Photoshop can help with that without the risk of a deadly bite.

After all, the subject was on a mission, dinner ! Not be interrupted.

Great shot! This reminds me of a photo I made a few years back but not as clear as yours where the skipper had its (whatever you call that feeding tube?) all coiled up in front of him. I may have to hunt that photo down and post it here. The colours are different a bit but still it looks much the same as the one you photographed.

Thanks for all of the compliments! I always make the effort to identify my subject. I made photos of the Roadside Skippers last summer, they are not as colorful as most butterflies but are quite dainty and have those great big eyes.

I think you're right about that! I was also told lots of little frogs hang out looking for insects and swim in the fountains.
