I am glad that there is a forum such as this that helps stop foreclosures. I have told my friend about this site and she said that she will post her property here. Thanks again.

RE: nails versus screws

Actually its not so much the fact I was looking to see if they used nails or screws in the barn door hinge but rather the fact that I like exploring photos containing lots of small details as these can tell stories in themselves that go way beyond the scope of first glances. I guess I am somewhat different in this respect as it seems most photographers or photography appreciators on this side of the planet seem to concentrate upon a subject that fills the frame but with little attention being paid to what is in the background or small details in the subject itself and how these relate to the scene the subject is in and even its history too.

As for deck construction and the use of nails instead of screws I believe its more a matter of the cost of labor as screws, though better for staying anchored, also take more time and would drive up the cost of the deck construction considerably.

nails versus screws

It made me smile when i read your comment. I had posted the photo for it's aesthetic appeal and you were checking to see if they had used nails or screws on the hinge! It must be a man thing? By the way-should decking be nailed or screwed in place? We bought our home and didn't really pay any attention to the construction of the deck. Now we have to bang nails back in all the time so that our feet and socks (yes, my 15 year old goes outside in his stockinged feet) don't get snagged by nails poking up!!!

ps if the hinge had been screwed in place, then the door wouldn't have that interesting hang to it, and I wouldn't have my pretty photo!

Moth

I first saw this unusual looking moth last year on a sedum plant and I only saw a few this year. Just as the sedum blooms were opening heavy rains ruined them and I was only able to get a few shots. This shot was made of the moth nectaring a wild aster. My research indicates their host plant is the Tree-Of-Heaven (Ailanthus altissima), introduced from China and considered by some to be an invasive species. On one of UNC TV's Exploring NC episodes this tree was included in a discussion about non-native invasive trees and plants in North Carolina. This doesn't exactly answer your question but I think it's an interesting topic. Thanks for the interest.

Barn Door

Its interesting to note how repeated freezings and thawings over the years have forced some of the nails out at the upper barn door hinge to reveal holes in the hinge made for countersink screws ...and I have yet to see one old barn door hinge where somebody actually used countersink screws instead of nails. Go figure!

Moth

Very exotic looking, I’ve never seen this moth though I have noticed their webbed nests. How did you get him to land on a matching flower to make this beautiful image?

What a great way to help people in need, and the environment, too! It doesn't take much time or money to help, and after all, everybody needs socks!

Let's make a difference on November 1st...with our feet :)!

Weather conditions

I didn't get over to the area where the tractor pull event was held, all other areas were high and dry. A beautiful day, I just putted around on a golf cart with friends, enjoyed the sights and mostly snapped a few shots of my friend's grandson.

Thanks to both for the comments!

Hart's Pumpkin Festival

I was about to say the same thing as Lilly! - he does look totally absorbed. Great pic! By the way, how was the festival this year? I had visions of a mud-fest so I never made it out this year... thought about the Liberty Antiques Festival on that same day too, but decided not to go for the same reason plus the extra distance/gas usage too. I also thought about attending the 2nd annual Celebration of the Automobile Car Show at the Historic Occoneechee-Orange Speedway at Hillsborough that same day as well but wasn't feeling up to being in a large crowd of mostly NASCAR fans (I'm not big into NASCAR as I am into the old historic site itself) that day - I like the hiking trails at the old speedway better on quiet days. Anyway since it was also the last weekend the Fairgrounds Flea Market was to be open before closing down for the whole month of October in preparations for hosting the NC State Fair, plus the weather was nice too, I ended up there instead.

With the conditions at Hart's Pumpkin Farm still being quite wet from previous rains I can imagine the tractor pulls must have been quite a sight to watch! You (and maybe your friend too?) might have been the only person(s?) from share.triangle to have taken any pictures at the festival this year, so do feel free :)
