italian language schools italy Choice of a number of foreign students today, Italian is an interesting language spoken by 70 million people across the world. The University for Foreigners, Siena, is one institution that offers internationally recognized certificates in Italian language course. The other institution is “Accademia Italiana di Lingua” (AIL) in Florence. This institution in Florence also offers similar official certificates. CILS certificate is issued after passing the various levels of exams in Italian as a foreign language.

YEAR ROUND SCHOOL

i think we should have year round school because over the summer students tend to forget what theyve learned in school in the begining of school they trend to waste time talking and wasting time. if we have year round school i think i will help the students learn alot more. so i agree with year round school i agree with our teachers.

Languages aren't taught in

Languages aren't taught in middle school. Once a child learns it in elementary school, they will forget it by high school since that is when foreign languages are being taught again. The only way a child won't forget it is if they are taught the foreign language continously.

When I was a child, I always

When I was a child, I always thought mowing the lawn looked cool. When I was old enough to help at home, my father would let me use the push mower to help mow our back yard but I don’t think I ever really understood the dangers of those mowers and just how sharp those blades were until years later when I was a pediatric resident working in the ER with grass in full bloom. I saw fingers and legs sliced in ways unimaginable, some from foreign bodies kicked up from the mower. But, the worst lawn mower accident by far was a cute little boy who had fallen off a riding mower. Despite his father's quick reaction at hitting the power kill switch, the child's leg was horribly damaged by the blade. He's very, very lucky he didn't end up losing it.

According to recent statistics, 75,000 people are injured each year from lawn mower accidents with 10,000 of those being kids. These injuries can be very, very serious but are also avoidable by following some simple safety measures. Here are some simple tips from the American Academy of Pediatrics to help you keep your family safe while keeping your lawn healthy this summer:

"Try to use a mower with a control that stops the mower from moving forward if the handle is let go.
Children younger than 16 years should not be allowed to use ride-on mowers. Children younger than 12 years should not use walk-behind mowers.
Make sure that sturdy shoes (not sandals or sneakers) are worn while mowing.
Prevent injuries from flying objects, such as stones or toys, by picking up objects from the lawn before mowing begins. Have anyone who uses a mower wear hearing and eye protection.
Do not pull the mower backward or mow in reverse unless absolutely necessary, and carefully look for children behind you when you mow in reverse.
Always turn off the mower and wait for the blades to stop completely before removing the grass catcher, unclogging the discharge chute, or crossing gravel paths, roads, or other areas.
Do not allow children to ride as passengers on ride-on mowers."
By the way, the best way to keep small kids safe while a a grown up is mowing the lawn is to have the kids indoors or on a deck supervised. Rocks, sticks and all sorts of things can get tossed out from under a mower and also cause damages, as the University of Michigan Health Minute reminds us.

Given how many pictures I found online of kids pushing grownup mowers with their dads and grandpas, this is an important issue to talk about. Plus, I still can't shake the image of that cute boy I saw all those years ago in the ER. Let's all do what we can to make sure those type of images become history.

are you kidding?

Where are you both from? How were you both raised? Everyone comes with their own set of tools, and I am sure you have not been raised in an environment where world languages and diversity where necessarily a positive influence in your background. I hope that those making these opinions have traveled abroad more than a few times, have worked overseas, have gotten to know an 'alien' family, has participated hands-on in their children's education, has done their research in linguistics versus having an experiential/outsider opinion on education.
Learning another language in elementary school will not affect a child's ability to learn English properly. Most elementary schools teach a world language at most 15-30 minute two to three times a week, unless it is a bi-lingual or immersion program (in which you have a choice to send your children there or not). I'd also like to point out that Americans are not the only country that does not speak a second language. Every country has a population that is mono-lingual and have the same opinions of learning another language or about 'foreign' people. It is only when you allow your mind to open and not fear others that 'I get it' moment happens.
All linguistic research both nationally and internationally has concluded that children that learn another language score higher on tests, hold more vocabulary words in both the right and left hemesphers of the brain, are more tolerant and less fearful of other cultures, become global citizens, and have an upper hand when it comes to the future job market. What part of that sounds bad?
Learning a second language is like learning science vocabulary, math vocabualry, art vocabualry, etc... When a child is young they are more likely to learn faster and are able to store more information without the fear of something 'foreign.'
Children that struggle with English usually have other factors that contribute to their struggle; for example, learning disability, developmental delays, concentration issues, retention issues, non-native speakers, socio-economic problems, lack of parent involvement, and/or untrained teachers.
I do agree with children the immigrate here, like any other country, must learn English, but there is no reason why one must leave their old language behind or pick up another.
There are so many resources and extra help out there to learn English properly. If one is motivated to do so than there is no problem. Education doesn't happen only in the elementary school, it is a long term investment. Life learners require support from family, educators, and specialists to create a stronge English student. An additional language in the elementary school does not hurt, but only enhances the learning experience of students. Wouldn't you want your children to keep up with the changes of the world and give them tools for the job market?

school times

I have to laugh when I read these posts......"Can I sue the school board so that my child doesn't have to get up too early",,,the parents must want to sleep in.
I live in NH and my kids get onto the bus at 6:25am, school starts at 7:10am (6th - 8th) and this is even the same time when its 4 degrees out in February! Imagine, all of my 4 children are very highly educated, and successful, and they didn't sleep in. ----I suppose I should have sued for a longer Christmas vacation.
Don't worry about your child getting up, or you'll create an adult who cant get up and get to work on time.

"Graduating" from fifth grade

This whole idea of ceremonies for completing elementary school make no sense. High school graduations make sense because for some people, that's the end of their education. How many people stop school at the end of fifth grade?

Year rnd wll be gone in ten years to protect those responcible

Wow -- most of you guys are clueless. We have three students in forced year round. Two of them could not get the classes we requested because of year round and how they cannot open another class because of the way teachers are split up and cannot accomadate like a one track school. Think about it people. Use your brain. Can you not understand how each track cannot be as flexible as a "one" track school with their teachers. Not to mention no one wants to buy in our neighborhood because of forced year round. My prediction the experiment will end just like everywhere else in about ten years. Quitely so that nobody can call it a massive failure. You believe the government? I guess you believe there is no inflation too. We have a mess on our hands and year round is just the tip of the iceberg.

Year Around Schools

I think if the teachers cannot do their jobs in 9 months of Regular school What gives The school the right to change schedules to a year around school system. I think someone has took our rights away and has decided they need to put more money in the teacher's pocketbooks. I do think that teachers should be paid more if they do their jobs.

year round instead of traditional

My kids have been redistricted to a traditional school. Year round works well for our family and we would rather stay there. How can we get back and override the redistricting? Is there any case for this? Another note, here in Franklin County NC we are under a Federal Mandate to desegregate. This mandate is interfering with our ability to get things done or transfers accepted. I need help. Can anyone offer suggestions or site any rights as parents to appeal and be sent to a year round if that is our choice.... Help please.

something to consider

As a parent, I thought year round schools were a great idea. Until we tried it. We never thought about a teacher being out twice in one year for maternity leave.

Foreign language

My thoughts on this are simple. Demand the immigrants coming into this country to speak English, and we'll teach our children foreign languages. Our children should not have to learn different languages just to be able to communicate with others who came from outside the US. Now, I do understand the argument that it makes them more well-rounded. I myself can speak Spanish, but that's because I took advanced courses throughout high school, and to be honest, I never use my ability. My stepson, who is 4, is being taught Spanish because he is 1/4 Bolivian. His parents and I don't pressure him to learn because we want him to enjoy his childhood. Let them be kids.
