Blue Water

Interesting! I have seen similar blue water at a small pond in Orange County just south of Hillsborough. The blue water in the pond in Orange County comes from minerals brought up from a spring below. I wonder if it is the same thing causing this at the Longjing Tea Plantation? Its the exact same shade of transluscent blue too!

a squirrel's eye view (no gnomes in the woods that day)LOL

Java, You did it again. You made me laugh out loud!! I have learnt that sometimes the most blah photo can be made interesting by getting down and not being afraid to get dirty. I have been asked many times by passers by if I am ok because I am laying on the ground in the woods trying to photograph the underside of a mushroom or a sky view through trees-LOL.

I'm looking forward to seeing what you will shoot from the ground up. MC

Chinese architecture

This is a real work of architectural art! I imagine it must have cost a small fortune to build it too. Speaking of art if you all are interested in Chinese art, you might want to talk to your tour guide about the possibility of including a visit to the Beijing Art Academy while you are there too.

The Jogger

Aye, a gnome's eye view!

This reminds me of one random shot I made from sidewalk level while at Raleigh Wide Open 4 - turned out looking kinda cool but the background was not that exciting. In retrospect I think I should have shot more photos that way as I might have ended up with something amusingly interesting. This gives me an idea for a future photography outing... TeeHee! Thanks for posting this!

Raleigh Skyline

Thanks! I was fortunate to be there at sunset when an Amtrak passenger train was leaving Raleigh as this train really added something to the photo! The vast majority of times I have been here at or about sunset there was not a running train to be found upon the tracks and any photos I made looked relatively dull. This time I shot a whole sequence as the train rounded the curve and passed under the bridge, but in the photos I noticed as the train got closer it became the subject instead of the Raleigh skyline, so while sorting through my pictures I chose a photo where the train was at just the right distance that the two complimented each other. Trust me, this choosing was not an easy task!

Skip Land... Skip Land... Skip Land...

I have also noticed that the rules keep changing for successful transmissions to Share. I almost feel like a ham radio operator relying upon ionospheric skip for transmissions to go around the curvature of the earth - its never the same from day to day, or hour to hour, or even minute to minute! ...but if recorded and charted over a long enough period of time a ham radio operator *might* notice a subtle 27-day cycle that correlates quite well to the rotation of the sun and solar wind activity interacting with the earth's ionosphere to create ideal conditions for the skip needed for a successful 'around the curvature of the earth' transmission.

Right-mouse clicking to open pages into new windows helps sometimes too and once you find a page that you're actually logged in dont close that window. Also if you do get a successful photo upload, hitting the 'back' button on your browser after the photo has uploaded can often get you back to the upload page again for another upload. Hope this helps!

By the way, great fireworks picture!

Are you trying Java's trick

Are you trying Java's trick of clicking on a thumbnail of one of your own shots? It's worked for me lately as a way to get the site to recognize that I'm signed in. Also, some work on the site seems to have been done. Some buttons on my profile page that used to be mis-aligned (and therefore all bu invisible) seem to have been fixed.

Beautiful colors! I love the shallow depth of field. It makes the petals look like they are in layers. Nothing hidden by shadows or burn-out. Interesting and easy on the eye. Great shot!

Random Idea

Being that the holidays are fast approaching this would be a perfect location for Santa to team up with Toys"R"Us for a real toy drive !:o)--

...and only moments away there would be an outdoor ice rink set up too.
