Pudong

Hopefully you will find this before the day is over. Besides a ride on the Maglev train while at Shanghai, a couple of must see places to add to your list if it does not already include them is in the Pudong district - the Oriental Pearl TV Tower with its observation deck overlooking the Huangpu River (you can see the Bund on the other side) and to top the day off, a light dinner and drinks at Cloud Nine atop the Jin Mao Tower would be perfect!

Thank You

Thank you so much Richard for sharing your feelings with all of us. As you know, Tony is an army Vietnam Vet who fought for 11 months in the jungle, my grandfather was a WWI navy veteran who fought in France, my Dad was a WWII veteran who served in the Pacific and my cousin, Roger Brookes, was an army medic in the second wave of soldiers on D-Day at Normandy Beach in France treating the many wounded who were in the first wave. All of these brave men and so many others served and sacrificed to protect our freedoms and the freedom of so many others. I remember Tony, my grandfather, my father and Roger with honor everyday for what they and all the others did for us in protecting our freedoms and the freedoms of others. We will never know the sacrifices they made or the suffering they experienced all through life after the wars, but you have let us into their world a little with your thoughts. I only hope that our present generations will be able to continue to protect our freedoms and our wonderful country. Again, thank you. Rhetta

Your brothers would be very proud to see what you wrote about them. I know you miss them. Sometimes writing can be very comforting! I must get that from you! :)
One thought about your concern for Uncle C.A. not having anytone to talk to...it was a pretty neat thing that he was able to spend his last days in a veteran's home where he was surrounded by other men who served our country...and the talker he was...I imagine he shared quite a few stories during that time! It's great we had a facility close by built especially for our veterans! He definitely earned his right to be there!
Have fun with your travels! (From another niece)

Fantastic entry! Here in

Fantastic entry! Here in Playa del Carmen, Mexico there are a number of beaches that take serious measures to guard turtle nests. One beach even has armed guards who patrol the beach during egg season. The kid's school, Ak Lu'um, was invited to come and help release baby turtles that were born in safety (the eggs were removed from unsafe beaches and taken care of until hatching time). We were so excited that we were going to be a part of such a magical event. We were all disappointed when we heard that no turtles had been born that day and so our outing was canceled. :( Maybe next year! Thanks for sharing your experience with us!!

Found your blog and just read the Halloween story..good one!
We enjoyed meeting you, Dolly and Louie on the beach at Indian Ocean. Got a good picture of the three of you. Will read more of your stories in the next few days. Wish we were still there. Continue to enjoy the sun and surf for us now that we are back to reality(?)

communicating

It's easy to talk about what's going on at Lufkin. For me the difficulty lies both in remembering to blog (I'm old, okay?) and deciding what people want to hear about. I love watching the learning and teaching process, but I wonder what others want to know. For example, yesterday we had our awards assemblies. They went really well: our students were on their best behavior, the band and chorus performances were awesome, and the kids even remembered to smile for their parents when they went across the stage just like we practiced. I was so proud of them. We had one assembly per track, and at the end of each assembly there was what can only be called controlled chaos as students, parents and teachers gathered in the pods to celebrate and say farewell. It was a little noisy. I found myself beside a mom and said, "Isn't this great?" and she gave me a look that made me think she wondered about my sanity. But I was looking at all the smiles of satisfaction that represented some very real hard work on the part of everyone there that got them to that point. I'm not crazy--it WAS great.

about this

Hi I really thankful to you because you are simply greatI am very happy to post my comment in this blog. I gathered lot of information from this site. However, in many countries, the traditional divisions are breaking down. Barristers used to enjoy a monopoly on appearances before the higher courts, but in most countries this has now been abolished, and solicitor advocates can generally appear for clients at trial. Increasingly, firms of solicitors are keeping even the most advanced advisory and litigation work in-house for economic and client relationship reasons. Similarly, the prohibition on barristers taking instructions directly from the public has also been widely abolished, but in practice, direct instruction is still a rarity in most jurisdictions, partly because barristers with narrow specialisations or who are only really trained for advocacy are not equipped to provide general advice to members of the public.Nice blog.

What does this mean?

I think it's important to identify academically gifted students early in their school careers. We have to be purposeful about offering our students opportunities to be engaged in meaningful learning at all places of the ability spectrum.
