Origins

Introduction: Where did these gnomes come from?

On April 18, 2005 a rogue 70' high wave struck a Norwegian Cruise Lines ship, the NCL Norwegian Dawn while on its way from the Bahamas to New York and afterwards had to return to port. Although none of the registered passengers were lost there were however a couple of stowaways on deck that got washed overboard. Anyway, these little stowaways both clutching their coffee mugs and a flag somehow managed to make it to shore landing upon the North Carolina coast, and being the gnomes that they were immediately staked their claim for Julenissen, the unofficial ambassador of peace back in their hometown of Drøbak, a small quaint maritime village about 30 minutes south of Oslo, Norway.

Below is a photo of the gnomes themselves taken while at Drøbak.

Let me sweeten up this idea...

Toss the doughnuts!

No, this is not the Keebler Elf Tree :o) ...but, if this above proposed Gnomes Coffee Shop were to have some sweet treats they need to be extreme. Great Baklava as a side would be a perfect choice.

What this place needs...

...is a new and different type of coffee shop. Even though there's already a coffee shop at Christchurch, New Zealand by this name, a Gnomes Coffee Shop here in the triangle area might not be such a bad idea considering the higher concentration of artists using various mediums within this area's population. Various Gnomes prints could be utilized upon the coffee mugs, etc. which are used for serving beverages and can also be for sale as well for collectors and appreciators of this fine beverage. Here is one such photo below (courtesy of myself) that could be utilized upon the coffee mugs - an excellent example for one of these fine Gnomes Coffee Shop collectible coffee mugs.

Anybody else like the idea?

My "used to be" favorite place.

I had a favorite hangout in Wake Forest. I discovered it about a year ago....I guess. I have a tennis partner and after we dropped the kids off at school we would sometimes meet at this place. It was called 'The Well'. Located in the historic downtown area of Wake Forest, the charm was prominent the second you walked in the door. Old wooden floors, different rooms situated with floral couches for you to lounge on. Flat screen tv's for the modern folk. Art by local artists adorned the walls; art you could purchase. Wifi for people like me that like to jump onto this site to blog.

When you ordered something from the lady at the front desk.....she would talk into an earpiece on her head. You go sit and your coffee was brought out.

Over our childrens' six week summer break the place closed! I actually felt a feeling of loss. In fact my exact words to only me in the car was, What!!??!! It was usually crowded, but I guess the Starbucks of the world have made business tough for little unique shops as this one was.

Now I guess I have to go back to the Starbucks on Falls of Neuse and Durant where a certain editor kept me waiting for fifteen minutes past our meeting time! : ) And no it wasn't fooded.
