Tags

Are there any plans to bring back the autofill feature to the image tags to help keep things more organized and for making other related photos getting buried deeper into the archives to become more easily accessable when clicking on an image tag? These tags are case sensitive and an autofill feature sure would help keep from forming two sets of queries with different results for the same thing. Also it will allow others to see what tags have already been created so they can choose to use these to add their related photo content if desired.

Photo Strips

I think I may have found one good use for the limited space we have trapped between the menu column on the left and the immovable ads on the right. If I resize my photos to about 450 pixels wide, I can then cut and paste a series stacked up one on top of the other to create something like a mini-series of photos all in one photo but done in a vertical strip. So far I have managed to put two photos together like this. As for the vertical limititations, I am uncertain... but it might be an answer to keeping related photos together.

River Mill - 25 Years

The top photo was made with a cheap point and shoot camera using 110 film and the print later digitized and the lower photo was made with a FujiFilm FinePix F410 point and shoot digital camera. Both photos were shot from approximately the same location upon the top of Falls Lake Dam in late December but 25 years apart. The two photos were then digitally combined into a single photo to show in one view what a difference 25 years can produce.

Firefox vs IExplorer

You must be using Firefox as a browser; try using IExplorer and you will notice quite a difference in options allowed. Just thought I would pass that along.

And by the way, welcome to our humble photo forum and hope you get to know some of the fine folks here in time too.

Well, I managed to get this posted by grabbing this photo of mine off my old website. I must be doing something wrong, because I tried the copy and paste route outlined above and it didn't work. I'll keep trying!! John

I have had trouble with getting the blog pages to open in my Mozilla/Firefox browser. The other pages open, but not the blogs. I posted a blog on thursday and it disappeared.

I tried to find the place to vote for the comics and couldn't find it.

light gray on white?

Your color coordinator is uncoordinated.

Light gray on white is almost invisible.

It's like pink print on rose paper, or good news from Iraq in the N&O. Almost invisible.

Original Size View Reduced to Vertical Strip

Sorry, I lost sight of the problems on the site for a couple of months... but I lately noticed that the large original photos are not displaying properly anymore. They are truncated left and right by other entries on the page which leaves a roughly centered partial vertical strip of the picture. However, the photo properties are correct and it will save properly to the hard drive. I guess that's not the way it was intended to be displayed! Sorry if this was already reported, please point me to the proper forum entry in this case.

Preview sizes, original sizes, etc...

When viewing preview sizes of landscape photos I have noticed that about 50 pixels on the right side is covered over by the ads. When saving a copy of a preview landscape photo it is saved at 500 pixels width and complete without any missing parts, however when viewing them here they seem to only show approximately 450 pixels width... which might explain why those 50 pixels on the right are hiding under the ads. Perhaps the techies can either make the sizes to match or move the ads out of the way (maybe to the bottom of the page in a horizontal row under everything?)... or at least make the ads less rigidly placed? This would also be extremely helpful when trying to view original photos here especially!!

Thanks in advance!

The photo above is a preview size landscape photo 525 pixels wide. About 75 pixels on the right side are covered over by ads. Will the techies here please make a note of this?

Hmmm... they changed the blueprints now

It appears if this current format is to continue, any photos posted into a thread will either need to be portrait shots or landscape shots scaled down like the one above just to fit within these rigid borders created by those immovable ads...

Missing archive photos: There's a lot missing from mostly sometime after September 7, 2007. Many photos including all those made at Hart's Pumpkin Farm (by myself and others), numerous photos from two tractor pulls, 5 photos of Silver Shaft Mine (scanned 1981 photos) in Cabarrus County, and the list continues... I'm glad I put plenty of text under my photos in addition to the captions, otherwise some that still existed would have been forever lost within these archives, but as for the ones which had both captions and plenty of texts as well that still went missing... maybe those mischievious gnomes with their little mugs of coffee took them after they too escaped...(?) Yes, I know you all who've been here for awhile remember the gnome photos I posted. One good thing is I am no longer embarrased by what used to be a huge user point total which was well over 2000 points as this has been drastically reduced now.

Personally I think the next time some slick salesman tries to sell a new software platform here, the powers that be need to play extreme hardball and not purchase such a platform until after it is tested in real world conditions.

Overall Site Critique

After seeing the thread covering the issue with uploading photos and losing them when trying to preview, I thought I would post a couple of thoughts about this site in general, and the Photography thread in particular.

Overall, I find that the site is not very user friendly. It is difficult to navigate and find what one is looking for. The process of adding images to posts, for example, is not very well documented and is not at all intuitive. I spent a considerable amount of time online trying to find my personal information after I signed up on the site. The answer was relatively simple, just click on my user name, but it was not at all obvious.
