visitor, for every Andrea Yeats or Susan Smith there are adoptive parents who have killed children. None of there parents, biological or otherwise should have raising them. The question here is not who is going to keep the children physically safe. Either Allison or the Needhams would. The question is who should they be living with. There is no reason they should ever have been taken from their mother. It's probably too late now for them to be reunited before they grow up. The Needham's attorneys saw to that with their delays. At this point the best anyone can hope for is that somehow these poor kidnapped children can grow up without too much bitterness for the people who are holding them.

Andrea Yates..Susan Smith .. Mark Castillo

April 2 "visitor" ..

The day before you posted your message dealing with Andrea Yates and Susan Smith, Mark Castillo proved the same for fathers when he killed his three children in Baltimore.

Just wondering what your point was..since there are obviously both mothers and fathers whi kill their children because of serious mental illness.

Natural Mothers...???

I am just wondering if you Quets sympathizers consider biological moms Andrea Yates, Susan Smith and the so many other thousands of bio mothers who kill/murder/torture and resent their children every day of the year as 'natural' mothers too? It's a shame these 'natural killers' all didn't give their babies up for adoption...

I suspect that those posting on this board who are so adversed to the Needhams more than likely gave up a baby for adoption themselves and are dealing with a huge amount of bitter guilt. A MOTHER is the person who cares for and loves a baby 24/7/365, not just carries it for 9 months. A MOTHER nurtures and loves a baby forever, and that doesn't happen merely by giving birth. Biological doesn't certify a woman being a mother. [i.e. see above bio mothers mentioned]

Needham Family Supporter

I have looked at the timeline and looked up her disease, and can only come to the conclusion she has some kind of mental disorder. With her IQ and job smarts, she had to know her physical symptoms would wane so why did she opt for adoption instead of taking the offers of help given to her? Her pastor's wife is on record as having offered to help. She had a sister. Still, she decided to give up the boy long before he was even born, and then offered both children an entire month after giving birth. She had 3 days between her change of mind the first time, and STILL signed the papers again, only to change her mind 1 hr later. With her kind of finances, why not hire a nanny to help? She hired two caregivers before deciding they were unsuitable and firing them during the month the children were at home with her. With this kind of pattern of back-and-forth, I cannot possibly see how she wouldn't damage these children. I'm just glad the Needhams have been so protective and loving of them. They have worked very hard to protect their children from the Crazy Storm their birth mother has whipped up, and man has she capitalized on the "real" vs. adoptive parent supporters. Thank you Needhams, for selling your house, taking verbal abuse, and having your lives turned upside down to give these kids exactly what their "real" mother clearly cannot.

Actually, Charles Hannasch

Actually, Charles Hannasch is absolutely correct in his assessment of the situation with the ICPC. A simple review of the timelines either party has presented to the media shows that the Needhams were out of state with the twins before the ICPC paperwork was complete, a legal requirement, and before the required two week time period in interstate adoption.

So I agree that the charges for the Needhams are pending? No? Why? If illegal removal of children across state or national borders is the issue, let's be consistent.

These children will grow up. They will know their natural mother's love and devotion, whether sooner or later, they will know. And they will despise all who kept them from her.

So I guess that is a "no"?

I also spent alot of time with Ms. Quets. She said she intentionally kidnapped the children.

See, now I'm right and I don't even have to back up my BS claims. Wow, that was easy.

If you want me to list probably over 200 items in a complete and total bibliography, i will, but, if i decide to write anything about this, are you then going to pay me up front for the approximate 2000 hours plus that I have put into learning all of this? Let's say at $25 / hour, that would be about $50,000. If you want to send me a money order, i would gladly hand over my entire file and you would have it in less than a week.

Charges against Quets / where are charges against Needhams?

After having spent nearly two years researching the failure of the family law court system in the United States, including over three months of one-on-one daily contact with Allison Quets over the phone, sometimes up to 15 calls and e-mail messages per day, I am still perplexed by the fact that the US federal government filed criminal charges against Allison Quets. and yet failed to do so against the Needhams.

What Quets did in taking the children outside of the state of North Carolina was an illegal act.

However, Florida state law requires the total completion of ALL documentation of the Interstate Compact on the Placement of Children (ICPC) to be completed before an adoption is legally completed. There is no qualifying or conditional reference..Florida state law says "ALL."

The ICPC was never completed on one of the two children. Thus, the Needhams did NOT have the proper legal authority to transport the child out of the state of Florida. Therefore, legally, by the mere fact that the children are in the State of North Carolina, the Needhams are in fact guilty of kidnapping of the one child on whom the ICPC was not completed prior to their removal of the child from the state of Florida.

Therefore, the Needhams are in fact interstate criminal fugitives in North Carolina from the state of Florida. Since the transport of the child took place before the determination of legal custody by the district court in Florida, for the time period that the Needhams had custody, they were in fact legally GUILTY of kidnapping. Why have Florida state officials not filed for extradition of the Needhams to Florida to stand trial for interestate kidnapping?

Could it be that the person, Harry Shorstein, who is the Florida state prosecuting attorney for Jacksonville, Florida, just happens to be the uncle of Micheal Shorstein, the adoption attorney involved in the Quets case, and that Michael Shorstein would be charged as an accessory and possibly lose his law license if in fact the Needhams would have been properly indicted and charged and probably convicted during the time period during which the Needhams were in fact illegally holding the children in North Carolina?

Under the statutes of North Carolina and Florida, under the terms of the ICPC, each state recognizes in total the law of the other state, and thus, for the time duration during which the Needhams had physical custody prior to the ruling by the district court in Florida, Quets had legal custody of the children, but not phyisical custody, and, per the statutes of both states, the children by law should have been picked up by North Carolina authorities and legally returned to the legal custody of Allison in Florida.

Why did the North Carolina officials drop the ball in a blatant violation of the interstate accord (ICPC) and fail to legally discharge their legally-mandated duties by north Carolina statutes in this very simple matter?

North Carolina officials who violated North Carolina statutory law should be arrested and tried for their individual failure to fully and properly exercise their degal duties and removed from the state government payroll and imprisoned for their violation of the public trust of the citizens of North Carolina.

allison quets kidnapper

I would like to reply to sobrien about seeing this from the perspective of an adoptive mom. Calling respective parties kidnappers is doing an injustice to all of them. This sad saga requires the wisdom of a solomon. I believe that most thinking people would hold the view that, providing the birth mother has not been found quilty of gross wilful neglect or maltreatment of her children, the natural righs of a birth mother must outweigh any legal rights that other parties may claim. Further, it is frightening that we have lengthy so-called cooling down periods for major purchases, during which the parties can revoke the contract and yet when dealing with human babies these periods can be just a matter of days. It is time that the whole adoption process is examined in great detail and things like substantial pre-adoption foster periods are mandatory before a final relinguising can take place. This may seem harsh for the potential adoptive parents but there are many examples where children and or babies have been fostered successfully for short periods before being returned to their natural parent. If adoptive parents are aware of this from the start, they can make a their own decision whether they are interested in the process. From what I have observed, it seems that the adoption process has almost become like a commercial and legal transaction with one party driven by emotional needs and wants for a child and the other party driven by despair and heartbreak. Not a fair contest. ( From an elderly grandmother in Australia.)

adoption industry =money

After doing much research into the adoption industry I believe it is NOT SAFE for any Mother to even consider adoption.Once that happens the wheels are set in motion because of the lack of supply of healthy infants for adoption.Bushes' infant adoption awareness Act" uses tax payers monies to intice pregnant Moms into surrendering their babies to the so called "waiting adoptive parents" The Act uses that money to train anyone who might come in contact with a pregnant Mom to convince her how wonderful she will be if she gives her child to "more worthy parents" aka people with more money!
Grandparents take heed the government wants your grandchildren to provide children for their friends in the adoption industry!Hold your children and grandchildren close in love and support because if you don't there are those that have been trained to say just what your daughter needs to hear from YOU! Family love is not just during the easy, good times it is for all times.Your reward maybe that when you are older they will remember how you stepped up for them and they will be there for you!Now that is family values :)www.opednews.com/webber022704_adoption.htm

She's a wronged mother

It probably wasn't very wise for her to purposely initiate a pregnancy at her age, but apparently she was healthy and thought all would work out well. She only looked into adoption when she was so ill during the pregnancy that it seemed possible she would not survive.

I take issue with the poster above who said the Needhams did everything right. No, they did NOT do "everything right." First of all, it was THEIR relative that was part of the whole process of coercing Ms. Quets into signing the papers by keeping her at the adoption agency for hours. Secondly, she called the Needhams the very next day to state her intent to revoke the consent papers, and yet they proceeded to sign the papers. (Allison filed the Revocation of Consent on the 2nd day, well within the 3-day grace period that is mandated by Florida State Law). Thirdly, the Needhams failed to bring the twins for state-mandated visits with Quets THREE times -- once in March 2006, once in November 2006, and once in early December 2006. Allison had to get a court order to compell the Needhams to let her see the children.

Allison Quets very much wanted these children. Even before she got pregnant, she changed her position at Lockheed to one that was more family friendly (less traveling, etc.. She went through hell to have those children, and only signed the consent for adoption when she was exhausted, depressed, overwhelmed and under extreme duress from the adoption agency lawyer, the adoptive family and others.
