Sorry if anyone else went and was looking for me, but I do trust that if anyone did go they were sure to have captured some great photos!

I never made it to the event this year - got sidetracked and forgot all about it until it was already too late, but I did snap some interesting photos today while exploring along a single block in downtown Raleigh. Its amazing what one can find when looking!

As for future events I will try to do better. When they are closer at hand they are easier to remember too so that's a plus.

Update

Good news! It seems my other commitment has been moved up a week so now it looks like I may be free on the 21st. Now lets hope it does not rain because there are no indoor provisions for this outdoor 'Living History Day' event in Hillsborough.

*keeping fingers crossed*

I'm hoping so too

...but as of now it looks like I have another commitment the same day as the 'Living History Day' at Hillsborough on the 21st of February (on the paparazzi calendar) so I wont be making this one but there will be plenty of others posted as their times grow near, especially for April and May. The event at Hillsborough is however a great one for February photography for those who are interested.

I'm really hoping we can do

I'm really hoping we can do a photo event.

As for the doldrums, I'm feeling it. For me, it's a little hard to know what to take pictures of. Plus, it's cold out there!

One thing that seems to be helping me through this period is doing other photography-related stuff (beside taking pictures) - editing and lighting. I purchasd PS elements, and it's lots of fun experimenting and looking at instructional videos on you-tube. I also purchased a book on lighting (science and magic, 3rd edition) which is supposedly good and has been really informative so far.

Calendar

I guess its time to start a Share Triangle Paparazzi Calendar of Events forum where we can post upcoming family-freindly events that are also good for photography. This way we can all know what photo opportunities that kids to adults can attend are coming up for those who can make it.

And remember those rubber band wrist bands for identification. (I knew there had to be a good alternative use for all those N&O rubber bands I have been accumulating from my daily paper deliveries.)

Share.Triangle.Paparazzi

I like the idea of having weekend shoots where we, members of the not quite yet formed Share Triangle Paparazzi, can converge and perhaps possibly become a habit for those able to attend these informal weekend outings on a regular basis. After a number of years of hit and miss opportunity searches I so far have settled upon a routine for at least April, May, and parts of June, but as for other months of the year its still fairly much hit and miss. Maybe we could start a new forum topic sometime in the future to list the dates (and websites if they are available) for relatively local family-friendly events, etc. that are not only entertaining but also good for photography too so that anyone else who might want to join in will also know about them. As for identifying who might be Share Triangle Paparazzi members once we get there, perhaps something simple but not so obvious like a rubber band worn around one's wrist? Anyway, just a few thoughts for the future.

As for this upcoming weekend, so far the weather forecasts seem to be looking a tad cold for many extended outdoor activities (but as we all know weather forecasts that far in advance can be subject to change too.)

Still too new to this.

I am still very new to photography, so I am not experiencing the duldroms. I do find it hard sometimes to find subject matter this time of year. Sometimes the dull browm backdrop is a good thing. There is a picture of a cardinal coming up any minute that really stands out with brilliant color. Spring is right around the corner!

how to cure the doldrums

I belong to Flickr and a few weeks back noticed that a group of photographers from my home town in Scotland were meeting on a Saturday (or it might have been Sunday) to go on a "shoot" together. Why don't we see who might be interested in something similar here-we could have an outdoor location with something interesting such as downtown Raleigh, the Arboretum,a park such as Lake Johnson or someplace of interest, and an indoor alternative for inclement weather (I can't think of somewhere off the top of my head but I am sure someone else could). That way we could learn some photgraphic hot tips, see things from someone elses' perspective and get out of the doldrums-I am so in them right now!!!!!!

Photography: Winter Doldrums

This photography forum topic is for all those experiencing the so-called winter doldrums searching for new subjects to photograph that had not already been previously photographed by themselves or others. Presently my camera has been collecting dust for about two weeks now... just can't seem to find anything that begs to be photographed. Maybe I should just make it a point to shoot a bunch of totally random pictures next weekend and see if anything interesting unexpectedly appears.

Anyone else?
