One writer referred to Obama

One writer referred to Obama as an "ordained leader." What is that? Forgive me but ministers are "ordained". Obama has shown so much "un-American" behavior regardless of his words. Of course, the world is excited because we now have a pushover as President who will probably not stand up to other countries like presidents of the past. We are in for it folks. Say goodbye to our great nation. It will never be the same.

The end result..

Ohair ... for the first time in your life you're proud to be an American?? You sound like Michelle Obama, and that's pathetic.

Meanwhile... this is what will happen:

Black Americans will be helped less than illegal aliens.

It's sad, and it's wrong, but illegal aliens are more organized and have more political clout than black Americans.

The illegals are already getting jobs and benefits that our own poor need to raise themselves up. It's not going to get any better for poor Americans in general, and poor black Americans in particular.

The illegals keep pouring into the US. Here's proof:

http://www.borderinvasionpics.com

This is not good for the country.

So what Obama's accomplishment means to me is that we've elected a man whose value system is NOT one I can support.

I Am Confederate & I Am Union

Most importantly, I am an American. President-elect Obama's accomplishments have craved a yearning in my heart and mind to know the bad, the great and the hopeful America. I am so interested in learning from our history that I have requested to become the first African-American active member of the Bentonville Battlefield chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy. Like Mr. Obama, I can not and will not disown my white fellow humans. Afterall, we know there were slaves in the family. We also know there were forefathers and mothers whose ideas and contributions were not acknowledged simply because they were black and/or female. So, for the first time in my adult life; I too am extremely proud to be an American! We are awesome people.

Too much about race

There is too much of a mentality of US vs. THEM in this touting of a black man as President: it's an opposing team wins one for their side.

In the movie"Guess who's coming to dinner," Sidney Poitier, in the role of the doctor who is to marry a young white woman, tells his father: "You think of yourself as a colored man; I think of myself as a MAN." And that is what Obama is--a man who has become President. He is not black--he does not define himself that way. He is just a man who will be remembered on the strength or weakness of the job he does in service to America.

Different Perspective

1. Have you noticed that all of these shooting rampages that rack up a large body count happen in "Gun-Free Zones," and not at shooting ranges, military bases, etc.?

2. Socialism is a form of government different from a Democracy. Democracies almost always end up as Socialism, and then an Oligarchy. But consider this - our country was formed as a Republic, not a Democracy. Many Americans would be surprised to find that the word "Democracy" does not appear in the Declaration Of Independence, or the US Constitution. Here is a video with a nice, easy-to-understand explanation of how the American form of government came to be. If you want to skip directly to the part most relevant to our discussion, skip to 8:00.

3. The VT shooter was able to obtain his guns legally under what some call a flawed system. But do you suppose an individual so deranged would have given up his evil plans, had he not been able to legally obtain a firearm from a licensed dealer?

4. To think that any gun control law has ever - or will ever - stop a maniac from obtaining weapons and acting out is worthy of the Mad Hatter. Even if all firearms were banned (just as alcohol was banned in the early 20th century, and narcotics are banned currently), there would be a huge black market for these items. As long as there is something that people want and cannot get through legal means, there will be someone willing to go to extreme measures to provide it. Answer me this: How difficult would it be for someone desiring illegal drugs to obtain them in your area? Just because they can't buy cocaine at the local pharmacy, do you think they will not obtain it through other means? Or have the laws provided by Democracy been so effective as to prevent anyone from obtaining banned items?

"I would rather be exposed to the inconveniences attending too much liberty than to those attending too small a degree of it." Thomas Jefferson, 1791

Perspective.

Use it or lose it. Now for the numbers...

My perspective is based on the data. That I reference Virginia Tech and Columbine, these are supporting examples.

Socialism. It's a word. Every Democratic government in the world employs some elements of Socialism. A Libertarian purist might pick a dictatorship. Democracy will always employ a little redistribution.

Valid point on accessibility of guns. But the Virginia Tech shooter got his by legal means. The law had enough gaps in it to let the crazy man through, didn't it?

Your argument "having gun control and limitations on assault weapons", "killed those people". Is nonsensical. A deranged person killed those people with a leaky permit system that let him through to purchase his arsenal. Poorly executed gun control screening allowed the man to have the guns legally, but he pulled the trigger, no one else.

Obama has a unifying quality about him.

That's why the rest of the world cheered at the announcement of his victory.

Realistically it was likely that a Democrat would win the election this time around, regardless of whether Obama or Clinton had received the nomination. Unfortunately for McCain, many people in our country have grown weary of the way the war and the economy have been handled by the Bush administration, and this had a negative effect on Republicans running for office in general. Sarah Palin also had a negative effect on McCain's campaign because she "cancelled out" the strengths McCain was said to have, those strengths being his ability to cross party lines and his experience. Palin was about as far to the right as they come and had no experience, which probably drove many undecided voters to vote for Obama instead. As a female I have worked diligently my whole life to prove my intellectual ability in competition with males. I found Palin to be an insult to women, to our country and most of all to Hillary Clinton's accomplishments this campaign year.

Obama has been criticized as being unrealistic and naive, but I disagree. There are areas where he is not as experienced, but he has certainly been realistic and wise in the decisions he has made thus far. A few key examples are his choice of Joe Biden, who has the foreign policy experience he lacks, and his very technology-oriented campaign strategy that focused on reaching out to the demographic from whom he could gain the most votes (young people, and people living in cities/suburbs that are under 40 years old). I am an Obama supporter, but I don't believe McCain himself was a poor choice. I can't say I agree 100% with Obama's energy policy, and I believe his economic and health plans will have some challenges to face when it comes to implementation. Carrying out his health plan, for example, would require a change in the operations of government healthcare, not just its policies. I do, however, believe it can be done. The great thing about Obama is his commitment to finding the middle ground, and the best solution to a problem. He has encouraged all Americans, supporters and doubtfuls, to let their voices be heard, so if you have something to say about what our government should and should not change, write to him. Obama is the right candidate at the right time.

Don't get me started

Yes, I know the US government already has adopted many socialist policies, including the Federal Income Tax, which steals people's money and uses it for it's own purposes. What we need is a national sales tax instead, and to quit spending money on things we don't need, like unjust wars and sending so much metal into outer space.

Yes, you have to take the Bible with a grain of salt.

I am vigorously opposed to most forms of gun control, and I wouldn't even be bothered if it was all removed. "We" didn't kill those people at Virginia Tech - Virginia Tech's policy against letting qualified students carry concealed weapons did. The law in Virginia allowed students with a CCW permit to carry concealed weapons on campuses. But Virginia Tech disregarded this law on their campus. Students with CCW permits who would have had their weapons with them that day were not allowed to by VT's policies. All the gun control laws in the world can't stop someone from getting a gun if they really want one. The only counter to this is to respect the Constitution, and let qualified individuals defend themselves and others if they choose.

Your 'perspective' is based solely on emotion, and not logic. If "we" killed those people, it was by was having gun control and limitations on "assault" weapons.

You have a nice day too.

"I would rather be exposed to the inconveniences attending too much liberty than to those attending too small a degree of it." Thomas Jefferson, 1791

The government already does re-distribute wealth by virtue of it's tax and subsidy policy.

It's a game really. We pay subsidies to farmers to compete with foreign subsidies given by other governments. We give tax breaks to global oil corporations so they (hopefully) keep more jobs here.

The bible says alot of things. It's a long book. It also says Lot's daughters got him drunk and had incest with him. Hitler used the bible and prophecy to justify his murder of the Jews, Poles, Russians, Hungarians, Lithuanians, French, (can I stop now?) in Europe.

If gun control or limitation of assault weapons disturbs you, then perhaps you should interview the parents whose kids we murdered at Columbine or Virginia Tech. I suggest you should ride up to Blacksburg (Virginia Tech) and photograph the memorials there. It's a nice Fall, pleasant drive. Enjoy the nice weather. But get a little more perspective on the matter.

Have a nice day.

Wealth Re-distribution IS Wrong

The road to Hell is paved with good intentions. There is a difference between you selling your things to give money to some poor family just because you want to, and the government taking your hard earned money and re-distributing it. You may want to do the same thing the government is (supposedly) doing - help those less fortunate, and so you don't mind the government taking your money for that purpose. But you don't have a say in it either way, so it is morally wrong. The government takes hard-working people's money and does what it wants with it. It is simply wrong, wrong, wrong to take someone's earnings from them and give it to others, no matter how bad off those others are. It's not the government's money to give. You can give as much money as you want to charity, but the government has no right to steal your money and give it to anyone else.

The Bible also says, "Thou shalt not steal."
