Actually, no, this is just another example of how sexually repressed and backward-thinking our society is. Go put on your burka and live in the Middle East if you don't like it. The human body is absolutely nothing to be ashamed of.

Mark Phelps in People this week

Check it out. Page 94 in People Magazine (the one with Elizabeth Edwards on the cover). Mark Phelps pulled down the top of his singlet after he won another race. Puts the Abercrombie guy to shame. They should have put that picture on the cover instead of Elizabeth. Or they should have put Bernie Mac on the full cover. I hope Johnny what's his name didn't let his kids watch the olympics.

That protester...what a hypocrite!! Like he's NEVER seen ANY of Victoria's Secrets store windows? Come on. Just because it's a male this time...I say, it's about time we girls got something to look at at the mall!!

The David Statue

And one more thing... if this guy in the ad were naked, it would be called The David. I suppose Mr Stopper would be one of those parents who wouldn't want their kids to see that statue in a museum either. And we had to cover up the Justice Statue when A**croft was Attorney General.

Give Me A Break

Mr. Stopper is just jealous that he doesn't look like the guy in the poster. The lady in the ABC 11 interview said it was offensive and she hadn't even seen the ad. So, just cause Mr. Stopper (is this his real name?) and his crowd say it is offensive, she agrees. Hmm. Seems to me that she would also think that it was okay to leave those 3 kids on the side of the road and arrest the librarian in Alamance County. One step closer to losing our freedoms and rights.

You all need to find better things to protest about. How about the fact that the man on the cover of the paper the other day had to sell his house to pay Duke money for his dead wife's treatments (and she had worked for Duke and had a Duke pension). And he shouldn't have sold his house, cause they can't take your house away any more to pay for medical treatments. Or how about spending the time you were protesting delivering Meals on Wheels to people who need a hot lunch. The only meal they may get in a day. Or cleaning up the trash on the roadsides. I bet they could have filled a lot of bags just around the mall that day.

I just can't even think about this anymore-it makes me sick.

If your idea of family fun

If your idea of family fun time is going to the mall (any mall) you've definetly got bigger issues. Here's a thought: go to the park, a museum, swimming, biking... On another note, I'd be far more concerned about violence at the mall than some fluffy little homoerotic ad from A&F

An Ad is not fine art . . .

even if it depicts fine art. Advertisement is psychological manipulation--this ad is obviously designed to appeal to persons who find this image attractive, and the controversy created by the shock value only increases the attention seeking effort. While we can "turn the page," we may not have the option to avoid seeing the ad in the first place or avoid children believing that ads reflect reality. (Few ads depict real messages.) I agree with the comment regarding the continuous degeneration of advertisement messages, and there's a real likeliness that the situation will get far worse before becoming more reality based. Yet, a human body is beautiful in any shape or form. The real question, then, is whether this ad is discriminating and that men are too scared/embarrassed to vocalize that response?

What a Hypocrite!

What a hypocrite. Where has this guy and his selective morality been in the past several decades of Victoria's Secret posters and advertisements? Has he been just as visceral in his response to scantilly-clad models and manequinns in boutiques and department stores? Has he spoken, written or picketed the offices of executives in advertising, merchandizing of virtually all Forture 500 companies and beyond? I highly doubt it. Sheehan should have asked the gentleman these questions for the sake of professional reporting balance, but then again, her job (and that of her editors) is to sell newspapers and advertising space, isn't it? Good for A&F for bringing sexual balance to the world of advertising.
It used to be that most stores were closed on Sundays "to keep the Sabbath holy." This father, with his selective, relativist moralism should be offended at this and all progress of our society - but instead he chooses to leave God's house on Sunday morning and bring his family to our modern cathedrals of capitalism (now there's a church I can support!). Gotta run - suddenly feel the need to hit the gym to work on my definition.

How does this sell clothes?

How does this sell clothes? Where are the clothes? It's very homoerotic.

A+F is SO last millenium. They have to do everything and anything they can to stay relevant, especially to keep competitive with fresher brands in this tough retail environment.

Not acceptable

Not only is the ad unacceptable, I think the entire basis of Abercrombie and Fitch (and it's brother company Hollister) is ridiculous. I have personally boycotted the stores for their horrifying attempt in making every human being to feel unacceptable in society. I have friends that have worked there who were "harrassed" to quit once they reached a certain weight/size...one of whom was pregnant! I know personally, that I would not allow my child to see that ad, nor ever purchase anything from that cologne-stenched retailer...no matter how "uncool" it made her.
