"Pretty revealing that the Kansas people commenting about Roy wearing the KU logo now love him and chastise Carolina fans! Booed him before the game and now accept him as a true supporter of Kansas basketball....real classy on their part."

Did you survey folks to arrive at this conclusion? As member of a family of KU alums I think our opinions are representative of most KU fans:

1) Many don't care about Roy. (Myself, brother, Mom)
2) Most recognize his contributions to KU. (all)
3) A few are forever bitter. (Dad and sister)
4) Don't have strong feelings for or against UNC (all)

Keep in mind that Roy commented that he felt sorry about those who 'got left behind' when he went home. That -and other comments- truly lacked class.

I find all the posts amusing to say the least. Roy Williams is one of the top 10 BB coaches in the country and UNC fans have to take him as he is - emotions, warts and all. We at KU loved him for 15 yrs and he made our program better for his time here. However, he had to make an impossible decision and will, most likely, always have regrets. Who of us wouldn't? Give him a break and be happy for what he has done and will continue to do for UNC basketball. For my part, I am very proud that KU managed to grab Coach Self - he is an amazing man and a superb coach and his love for KU and his amazing National Championship team is a delight to witness. I think both schools ended up where they should be...that being said - Rock Chalk KU - 2008 Champs!!!!!

As an alumni of KU married to an alumni of KU I can tell you all that the only people still bringing up Roy leaving is Carolina fans! Trust me when I say that we are thrilled with Coach Bill Self! Roy going home was the best thing to ever happen to KU!!! Thanks Roy for 15 great years but you need to move on. We have!!!!

Rock Chalk 2008 National Champion Jayhawks!!!!!!!!

...because he wore the Kansas sticker right after we suffered a humiliating defeat by that team. I was shocked he did that, and I think he showed very poor judgment. How did he think Carolina fans would feel? He certainly shouldn't have been surprised by the reaction.

Roy Williams Kansas Logo

Roy was wrong. Would he have worn a Duke logo? You do not support the team that just royally kicked your A** on national TV, I don't care how many years you coached there in the past. It was a classless act. Roy, you should be ashamed. None of the current Kansas players were Roy's recruits, so why the loyalty?

Well, gee, let's look at that rationale for a second....if his second wife is a tramp, that INTRUDED into his first marriage where she was not welcome and didn't belong in the first place, I'd say she's got nothing to bitch about. She's a little ho' that deserves whatever she gets. 'Nuff said.

I hate to break your obvious naive bubble, but if you were to see any of his old press conference with KU you would see that he also said, "I have the best players, the best boys, yadda yadda, in the whole world, no coach is as lucky as me, because I have the best players, the best staff and play at the best school." Oh wait he didn't say that about UNC at the press conference, sorry. And you're right, his loyalty to UNC isn't in doubt, he very good about showing up for a job.

sorry Beezer

Sorry Beezer, Self had the good sense to stay, something sadly Roy wasn't able to do, thanks to his guilt ties to Dean-Mr. Selfish-Smith. I'm sorry you can't get it through your thick Tar Heel head that WE, in Kansas, use our word as our bond. When he said he was going to retire a Jayhawk, we accepted that as truth and so did all of his players. After he was forced to come to UNC, under pressure from Smith and sadly because of ill family members, yes we were hurt and the press ran with it, as they always do. A few complainers get all of the air time, most of us just wanted Roy to show us some respect for all that we gave him, and we can say thanks for all he gave us. We have something with Roy you'll never have---the history of his beginning success. Trust me, Bill is not a choker, we know the what happens to some coaches when the big pressure is on, and Self manned up just fine. Looking forward to many exciting games with UNC and KU! Best of luck to both our programs.

You're right it wasn't one phone that made him leave, you guys had to call and call and call and call...! You never left the man alone. So obviously YOU DO think he's the only thing that could save UNC basketball. You went through two perfectly good coaches before you dragged ours down there and now you're PO'd because someone slapped a Jayhawk on him and he didn't take it off? Give me a break you guys are Carowhiners to the max. Besides no one else would want UNC after they see they way you treat the man.

Everything you said makes sense. It probably was a friend as he headed to his seat who put the sticker on him, and he never wants to make some one feel bad so he didn't take it off, probably not thinking they would zero in on him in the stands. I hope our schools can play one another and enjoy the competition. Thanks!

Re: You guys are insane

That's the most rational and reasonable post I've read here. Have you already forgotten? The NC basketball program was falling apart and still managed to capture one of the best coaches EVER in the history of college basketball - and from a fellow destination basketball program, that loved him like breathing, at that. Count your lucky stars. You could be in Kentucky's shoes (although I think they have the right man at the helm now...). Are there better coaches out there? Maybe, maybe not. Certainly no-one with a better overall record. Is NC likely to trade up to someone better? No. Not very likely.

So, take it from a KS fan: if corny 'ol Roy wants to root for his old team when he's not playing against them, and cover his office walls with fond memories of living and coaching there - you should just say, "Thank-you Roy for choosing us instead anyway."

not so ignorant...

You are correct in assuming that Roy should probably have never left Kansas. He was happy here and had an extremely great thing going. He loved our players, our Fielhouse, he loved our fans and the passion we put into the game, he loved our campus and the history behind it. He loved being at the school where basketball started. He relished the idea that he was developing a legacy that would have went down as the greatest since Phog Allens'. However since the Tar Heels guilted him into coming back, don't expect him to just turn his back on the 15 years that made him into the legend he is. YOU didn't do it, WE did. If he hadn't been a great winning coach, you wouldn't have wanted him. You are all so fickle. He comes here with no training or experience, he becomes a great coach, you want him back, he says no, you're mad, he finally comes and you're mad that he doesn't seem grateful enough, blue enough, licking Dean Smith's shoes enough, so thankful for the opportunity. Get over yourselves. As for Bill bolting for Oklahoma. Check your newspaper. He's staying. He knows what a great school we have and money wasn't enough to make him leave. He probably sees how miserable Roy looks and doesn't want to make the same mistake. Roy is a good coach and his ties with Kansas will always be strong. Contrary to a few loud complainers he is will repsected here and welcome to visit anytime. Thanks for memory Roy, you made the Championship that much sweeter.

I agree with Coach Jordan

Hey, I agree. I'm a Jayhawk fan and I think it would be fun to have a game in Allen Fieldhouse and one in North Carolina. You'd be surprised how many people don't feel upset by Roy leaving anymore. We know he didn't want to go, but family and loyalty to his mentor, Smith, played a huge part in his decision. Time has passed and both schools have great coaches and great teams. I say, let's play.

Be careful what you wish for Carolina fans.

Be careful what you wish for Carolina fans saying all those demeaning things about Roy. He is a great coach, recruiter, and teacher. When he was at Kansas he wore a Carolina sticker and sat in the UNC section back in the 93' Final Four. Give the guy a break, you all could do much much worse then Roy, so move on and look forward to a bright future with Roy as your coach. Good luck next year to UNC and God Bless Roy......and "Rock Chalk Jayhawk" Go KU.

Roy Williams walked into a program that was NOT like yours. We had just won the National Championship you idiot. Your program was in the dumper because you arrogant Heels don't know how to run a program. You were so brainwashed by that selfish Dean Smith, who in 35 years only won 2 championships, by luck both times. Our program has always been a winning program, and Roy was lucky to be a part of it. We were never in your situation. You let one man create a kingdom and your all his court jesters.
