Don't like the new Thin Mints!!!

Wow, the funny thing is I thought it was just me! They looked different and then when I tried one I couldn't believe it, they were not nearly as good! I mean they don't suck but I was very disappointed too. And even the carmel ones seemed to have less chocolate or something.
Anyways the Girl Scouts need to go back to the old faithful recipe that was working for them for years! :)

No wonder!

In years past I couldn't stop eating them. I ate them by the box, sought out more scouts, bought more thin mints, and ate them too! This year I had a couple (cookies--not boxes) and that was that. It didn't occur to me they were actually different. No wonder! I thought I'd just gotten old and lost my taste for them.

You teach the girls the WRONG message, too, if you buy them anyway. You teach them that swindling the public based on the past quality of an established brand name is good business and good for America. It's not. It seems like most of the American companies do this now. All they really own are brands. They sell cheap stuff contracted-out overseas labeled like they really made it themselves.

The Thin mints were not as

The Thin mints were not as good this year as years past but the Lemonades have been truly GREAT!! As addicting as the Thin Mints used to be for me.

I believe in the principle of the Girl Scouts cookie sales but I wish they received more of the profits. I know it does not cost $3.10 to bake one small box of cookies.

thin mints so disappointing! very sad.

wow.
I had no idea. I just bought a box of thin mints today. They used to be one of my favorite things in life. Now... yuck. They taste like soy cookies. Not the favorite flavor that I was expecting.
This is horrible for the scouts. The reason that people bought so many cookies is because they tasted great.
My mom was a girl scout leader and one year was the distributor for our area. I almost was sick eating so many thin mints. A house of thin mints was a dream come true.
If that happened today, there would be no danger of me getting sick. I could barely eat 2 of them.
yuck.
The reason Girl Scout

The reason Girl Scout cookies have sold so well for so many years is because of their reputation for excellent cookies. Good incentive. Take the incentive away, and sales will drop. That's just the way it is. I got my usual box of Thin Mints and was very disappointed. They were awful. I am hopeful that the Girl Scouts will fix the problem because if they don't they are going to loose their marketing edge - Great taste.

I did not and would not complain to those selling the cookies, but I think the big wigs need to resolve this issue or they will find themselves with alot of cookies left over. That's just reality whether we agree with it or not.

Hold the baker to a higher standard & keep loyal customers

I agree with your take on this unfortunate customer relations nightmare. I am not upset with the girl scout organization. I too was once a girl scout and all the better for the experience. However,as a consumer paying a whopping $3.50 a box for the cookies, I have the right to expect a quality product no matter who the organization is.
The peanut butter patties have always been my favorite, even as a brownie in the 60's. When I took my first bite of one this year I immediately new somthing was wrong! If it is not corrected; I too will be one of the many not purchasing next year. Some of Leaders that are responding sound very bitter and that is turning me off more than the sad quality of the cookie.

cookies

I bought 8 boxes - 4 thin mint chocolate and 4 lemon. They are the most awful tasting things I've ever had. I will never buy another GS cookies, and I've been buying them for close to 40 years. The amount of cookies you get is smaller too. The lemon were huge cartwheels, but couldn't have been more than about 10 or 12 of them in the box. The mints? two small packages. The cookies are NOT thin anymore and you can hardly taste the peppermint. The filling tastes like sawdust. I'd honestly rather eat dirt. I did send notes to the national and state councils about this.

Heard nothing about the change, open the first pack of Thin Mints with my daughters and we all said "SOMETHING'S WRONG!" Googled "thin mint change" out of curiosity and found this site. Not complaining about the scouts, we will donate in replacement, but what IDIOT decided to make a change. If I wanted a healthy cookie I'd eat an apple!

But the bottom line is, the cookies are awful now. No matter how great the cause is, and I think Girl Scouts is a great cause--three of my sisters were Girl Scouts, the quality of the product that brings in the most revenue for the Scouts is poor. Especially in comparison to how they used to taste and look back in the day. What more sales? Want people to stop bashing GS cookies? Then start selling a higher quality and better tasting product.

Remember folks, the troops

Remember folks, the troops only get a fraction of the money recieved from the cookie sales! Most of the money will go to "Corporate Girls Scouts" at the regional Council. The troops even have to eat the cost of any un-purchased cookies or half-sold cases. Zero risk at the council level, all risk at the troop level. Exploitative councils are ruining scouting.

Girl Scouts and local troops rock!

Council are run for profit and use highly paid employees!

Thanks!

If I were a N & O subscriber.......

I would unsubscribe! I can understand why they would publish an article about the moisture damaged cookies and where to call for replacements, but what did they expect to gain by publishing an article bashing the cookies? Why was it necessary to have taste testers give their OPINIONS on the cookies this year and why was it front page news?

My husband has already eaten 3 boxes of peanut butter sandwiches this year with no complaints. I have devoured 2 boxes of peanut butter patties and found them to be just as good as the Tagalongs that I have purchased in the past. The new Lemonades have now become my second favorite cookie.

By the way, I don't even live in North Carolina. I hope the N & O is proud that their negative press has reached other parts of the country.

Thin Mints

I actually sought out a forum today after eating thin mints this morning. I discovered a newly purchased box in the frig and downed a few for breakfast. Normally I'd put down the whole sleeve with ease, but they just weren't that good. Bland, no crispness, and a waxy taste that I still can't get rid of. What happened?!?
At first I thought it was my own tastebuds, but after reading other posts, clearly something is different.
