Holidays for the troops

Give2theTroops, Inc will be collecting holiday items to ship to our deployed military members who are away from home, family and friends for this holiday season. Please help us provide a bit of holiday cheer by collecting and donating any of the following items:

Holiday decorations-small decorated trees, wreaths, wall hangings, holiday crafts, stockings filled with goodies.
Holiday foods and snacks-coffee, hot chocolate, cider mix, cookies and crackers in boxes or tins, candies, nuts, dried fruits, trail mix, granola bars, beef jerky.
Holiday themed DVDs, and CDs
Toiletries-shampoo, lotion, shower gel, toothpaste and brushes, body powder, razor and shave gel, hand sanitizers, baby wipes, foot powder, chapstick, eyedrops, vitamins, toilet paper, tissues, air fresheners.
Small gifts-hand held video games, skin care products, socks, paperback books, CDs, DVDs, towels, twin size sheets sets, battery powered camping lamps, headlamps, travel pillows, disposable cameras, blankets.
Recreation items to share-footballs, baseball equipment, dartboards, table tennis sets, video game systems and games, horseshoes, board games, DVDs.
Cards and letters of support and encouragement.
Monetary donations to pay for shipping. Each package cost about $25 to mail.
Shipping supplies-tape, ziplock bags (all sizes), copy paper boxes

This is a wonderful opportunities for churches, schools, civic groups, businesses and families to show our support and appreciation for our military’s bravery, sacrifice, and dedication.

firewood for the needy

We are a Visions youth group from St. catherine of Siena in Wake Forest. For 10 years we have been cutting, splitting and delivering wood to needy families in Wake, Franklin and Granville counties. We operate from our church grounds in Wake Forest. Due to the high demand from heating costs and lack of funds in the social service departments, we need more trees than ever. We need any tree service contractors that are cutting down hardwoods in the area to donate what they can for this great ministry. Its an easy in and out for the trucks. Source Force annually assists over 1,000 residents in the Triangle, North Carolina area. Our clients live at or below the poverty line with HIV/AIDS and/or Cancer, many are homeless and without family support.

Source Force gives the gift of compassion, with no strings attached. We remind them that life is not only about aches, and worries and fears, but about caring, sharing, and joy.

We need donations of non-perishable food, coats (we especially need coats for men), winter shoes (we especially need shoes for men), sheets, blankets, comforters.

Help the Homeless by Supporting The Healing Place Shelters

For most of us, this season is a time to be home for the holidays, celebrating with our families.

Unfortunately, this Christmas approximately 250 men and women won't be celebrating at home but will be staying in the shelters at The Healing Place (a rehabilitation facility for homeless people with alcohol and drug dependency).

How can you help? Please support us as we provide safe and secure surroundings for homelesss men and women and their children by making a tax deductible contribution to The Healing Place (on-line at www.hpowc.org or by sending a check to The Healing Place 1251 Goode St Raleigh NC 27603)

Wreaths Across America

Wreaths Across America: Raleigh State Capital Building, Dec. 15 at noon. This national program will remember the fallen and honor those who serve, and teach our children the value of freedom. Wreaths will be placed at memorials honoring our military services from Arlington to California and other sites around the world. On Dec. 15 Civil Air Patrol will be placing wreaths on the 2800 graves of our country's fallen heroes. Those who wish to sponsor one or more of these wreaths may contact Lt. Raleigh Rescue Mission Sends Out Urgent Plea for Cold Weather Items

“We have none to give out and so many are asking for help,” officials say.

Raleigh—Raleigh Rescue Mission needs immediate donations of new or gently used blankets, coats, hats, gloves and scarves.

“With night-time temperatures falling into the 20s, we’re getting a lot of requests for these items. We have distributed over 600 blankets already, but now our supply has run out and we need these items immediately. In fact, we’ll take any donation of these items day or night,” said a concerned Lynn Daniell, the Mission’s executive director.

            Throughout the winter, Raleigh Rescue Mission distributes hundreds of blankets to homeless and low-income men, women and children. “Our greatest need is for warm blankets and warm adult coats in large sizes,” said Daniell.

            Daneill said the Mission would appreciate donations of any quantity. “If someone has one extra pair of gloves, we need them!” He suggested concerned citizens of the community coordinate simple Winter Warm Up drives to collect cold-weather items. The Mission will also accept cash donations designated for winter needs.

            “It’s very hard to turn these folks down,” Daniell said. “They come in coughing and shivering, and we have nothing warm to relieve their discomfort. If people want to simply send a designated contribution, we’ll buy what we need. Our goal is to get as many items as we can to distribute as quickly as we can.”

Durham Fire Department Launches Toys-4-Rides Campaign Dec. 15-16

Annual Event Collects Donated Toys for Children In Need

Durham, N.C. – This holiday season, Durham children will have a little extra something to smile about thanks to a campaign by the City of Durham Fire Department (DFD).

The DFD is launching its 2007 Toys-4-Rides Campaign by giving free rides on their fire engines in exchange for new, unwrapped toys for children of all ages. The toys will be distributed to children in need throughout Durham County during the month of December. The DFD’s Toys-4-Rides is held in conjunction with the U.S. Marine's Toys-4-Tots Program.

Residents are encouraged to bring new, unwrapped toys for children of all ages on Saturday, December 15 and Sunday, December 16, 2007, from 11 a.m. - 4 p.m. to Fire Station #2, located at 1001 Ninth Street, Durham. Citizens who are unable to attend the Toys-4-Rides event, but still wish to donate a toy, may deliver their toy to any of fire station during business hours, from now until December 23.

Donate an unwrapped toy or gift certificate to a child in need and enjoy the Fourth Annual "Joyful Voices of Youth" Holiday Musical for free on Friday, December 7, 2007, at 7 p.m. at Body of Christ Church, 4501 Spring Forest Road, in Raleigh. The celebration will include performances by Southeast Raleigh High School Choir, Body of Christ Church Choir, Upper Room Church Praise Team and others.

Homelessness in Wake County effects entire families. PLM Families Together is a transitional homeless shelter that helps families reach independence. During the holiday season we try to take the material burden off of the parents in the program by providing the families with their specific wishes. Tons of Toys for Toys for Tots Events Held at Wal-Mart and Border Books

ORANGE COUNTY- The Marine Toys for Tots Foundation, in partnership
with the Orange County Department of Social Services, will be holding
toy drives at the Orange County Wal-Mart and Borders Books on the next
two Saturdays. The Wal-Mart Toy Drive will be held Saturday, December
1st from 10 AM to 5 PM at the Hillsborough Wal-Mart on Highway 86.
The Borders Toy Drive will be held on Saturday, December 8th from 10
AM to 5 PM at the Borders Books on Fordham Boulevard in Chapel Hill.

The primary goal of Toys for Tots is to deliver, through a shiny new
toy at Christmas, a message of hope to needy youngsters.
All of the toys collected at these events will go to Orange County
children in need through the first annual Orange County Toy Chest.
The Toy Chest is a holiday store in which eligible parents can select
2-3 new toys per child to supplement their holiday. The Toy Chest is
designed to serve families at 200% of poverty that are not being
served by another DSS holiday program. There are many in Orange
County who are not fortunate enough to be able to provide gifts for
their families during the holiday season. These families rely on
these donations to make their holidays a joyous event.

Making the holidays brighter for over 5,000 low-income children in
Orange County will not be possible without the support of individuals
and businesses in the community. Please come out and support the
Marine Toys for Tots Foundation and the Orange County Department of
Social Services. Together we can make the holidays a special time for
all the children of Orange County.

Butterfly Life Supports 2 Community Organizations

Butterfly Life, Health and Fitness Club, once again is supporting 2 organizations during this holiday season. The fitness club located in the Ridgewood Shopping Center, Raleigh, is an official drop off site for Toys for Tots. All toys collected will be delivered to the Marine Corps center during the middle of December. Also, Butterfly Life is sponsoring The Wake County Women Center in their continued effort to address the growing issue of homelessness for women with children and single women. A holiday tree will be set up with stars representing the specific needs of the center. Individuals who would like to be a part of our special way of giving are asked to call Butterfly Life at (919) 755-3322 for specifics. Or, anyone can come by the center and pick up a star. All gifts are to be unwrapped and placed under the tree. The club will be hosting their 1st annual holiday social on December 11 from 6-8:30PM and will present the gifts to Debra Harrell Meehan, President of th Board of Directors of the Women's Center who will be in attendance.

Donations for the homeless

The sisters of Raleigh Chapter #108 feed the homeless once a month on the fourth Sunday at the Men Shelter located at South Saunders Street. Radio station Foxy will be supporting our feeding on Sunday, December 1st. Cy Young has announced on the air to drop off items to support our initiative during the time 3:30pm to 4:30pm that Sunday while our organization will be out there feeding the homeless.During this Sunday's feeding Foxy is planning on broadcasting from the homeless shelter located on SOuth Saunders Street in Raleigh. Please come out and donate for the cause. The wish list includes hats, gloves, sweaters, hoodies,toiletries and scarfs. We hope to see you there and thank you.

I would like to invite your organization to consider making a financial or product contribution to a Special Programs class at Ligon Middle School in Raleigh, North Carolina.

This Special Programs class annually provides to the lower economic group of students during both holiday seasons. Our goal is to help bring joy to their holiday season, with dinner Christmas as well as to provide gifts to our students. For the majority of our students, this is all they will get during the holidays.

The school covers no percentage of this budget. All monies are provided through the generous financial contributions of individuals and businesses.

We are hoping that someone will be able cater for our Christmas dinner. Our hopes is that someone will help us in creating a Christmas for our students by donating items on this wish list:

Animal Shelter Offers ‘Pictures With Santa’ at PetSmart

Chapel Hill—Orange County’s Animal Shelter will be offering ‘Pictures with Santa’ on December 2nd from 11- 4 at PetSmart on Witherspoon Blvd in Durham.

The event aims to help Orange County’s Shelter care for the thousands of animals it helps find homes for each year.
