I made this photo of a Leaf-footed Bug on May 11, '08. In another lighting situation the bug would reveal more brown coloration on it's back.

This was a lucky shot. As you said, the insect was off before I could get another. I don't think they fly any great distance but they can make a fast get-away.

Nice shot! I have yet to capture a decent photo of one of these. The best I've done so far is a photo of one upon an old canning jar we found in the woods but the jar was more in focus than the insect. I would love to have found a way to have both the jar and the insect in focus at the same time as I thought the portion of the canning jar it was on made an eye-catching background for some strange reason, but the insect was off before I could get another shot at it.
