Before going too far into this discussion one question comes to mind. With the large bulge in the population curve of baby boomers heading into retirement soon there is going to be a need for support as well as a continuing tax base to pay for just about everything. With income tax revenues soon to be headed for a major decline as this population of baby boomers drops out of the work force we will be left with a much smaller population base of legal citizens to support the ever increasing needs of our nation. Increasing taxes upon legal residents who are still in the work force to cover these needs would not at all be fair or even tolerable. Therefore first off there needs to be a way to monitor illegals at least in terms of whether or not they are paying taxes or proper taxes are somehow being collected. After this then we can deal with the status of their legality in terms of what it may or may not do for our nation and struggle to determine a way to deal with the problem from there.
