Movie Madness: Down to the Sweet Sixteen is. How did the N&O do on the film bracket?

We seeded 64 film comedies for our 2008 Life, etc. bracket. Are you happy with the choices? Did we leave off your favorite movie? Let us know.

Without question, the choice that caused the most consternation among members of the selection committee was the omission of Mel Brooks' "Young Frankenstein." In an effort to bring as much diversity as possible to the bracket, we tried to limit big-name directors and stars to one movie.

In the end, Brooks' "Blazing Saddles" made the cut. What do you think? Should we have included "Young Frankenstein?"

It has been sometime sence I have seen it , but I think it
had Ryan O'Neal in it and he went to Ca, with his girl friend Madilen Kone? and he fell in love with Barbara S ?

His Girl Friday

I am SO happy you had "His Girl Friday" in the list. I think it is one of the funniest movies ever - and I'm under 40! However, since it is so old, most people don't even know of it's existence.

You can't eat popcorn while watching this movie because you might miss some of the absolute brilliant dialogue (note: Cary Grant's real name is "Archibald Leach" which is a joke at the restaurant). While the movie is comical, the subject matter is riveting as you watch it unfold.

I applaud N&O for doing such a comprehensive list. Many were other favorites that I had forgotten and will now NetFlix.

Of course, some people will be upset that you didn't include their favorites ("Foul Play," "Ferris Bueller's Day Off," or as written earlier, "What's Up Doc?"), but you have down the most favored ones, the ones most people snort out loud with, the ones that keep playing and playing (and playing) on TNT.

Missed a true classic

Buster Keaton's "The General" is one of the funniest and most poignant silent features with terrific physical and ironic humor.

N&O Bracket

While it had to be difficult finding a spot for the movies that made the list, you can't help but look at the number of classics that you left off.

Young Frankentstein deserves a spot on this list for sure. How can you leave off Stripes?? Or even Trading Places??

These movies deserve a spot in the final 64.

Bonehead Call

Saying that two of the laugh-out-loud funniest movies of all time can't both be on the same list just because they were directed by the same person is like saying that Duke cannot play in the NCAA tournament because they are from the same conference and locale as UNC. Leaving "Young Frankenstein" off a list and including "Showgirls" or "Arthur" or "Wayne's World" is just plain ridiculous...especially since YF might well have won the entire tournament. (I know it would have in my bracket...)

What! No Tommy Boy???

I was ready to skip through everything to crown "Tommy Boy" as the funniest movie EVER! I went over all the lists two times before I would admit that it wasn't there!! Holy Cow!! Or should I say, "Holy Snikies!"
