The Carolina Hurricanes traded two guys that were a part of the 2006 Stanley Cup championship team Monday. Cory Stillman and Mike Commodore will go to Ottawa for Joe Corvo and Patrick Eaves. Was this a good move or did the Canes make a huge mistake?

I hope this is a good move for the Canes. All year long Ward and the d-men have struggled to find consistency.
I hate to see Commodore go, but I hope Corvo provides the type of spark the blue line needs.
Patrick Eaves is a question mark to me considering he low amount of game and contributions this year. The canes need a pure goal scorer to elevate their offense. I hope Eaves can fit in on the 2nd line.
well.. Let's have this discussion in 10 games. if the hurricanes are 8-2, I say good trade. IF they are anything under .500, then it just didnt work.
I am concerned that Eaves is simply injury prone.. Corvo, should be ok here.
The reality is that Stillman and Commodore were likely not back in 08-09, so getting something in return in the form of Corvo putting up 30+ points next season, and playing decent hockey the remainder of this season is probably worth the risk.

Because, of course, the only thing that makes a trade good is if the team that made the trade wins a bunch of games because of it. No, it couldn't actually be a long-term thing.
Please--I bet you called the Markov-for-Williams trade a bad one after Williams didn't score a hat trick in his first game, right?
I like both Canes players, but it was time. Small example: New Jersey game, Stillman was standing around the whole game, did not see any backchecking or checking.
Corvo is a great pickup on paper and Eaves is very young (alot of potential if he can stay healthy).
Next: Andrew Ladd, Wallin and what is up with Kaberle
Well put it this way 80% of the Hockey News readers think the Senators got a steal. The Hurricanes will not improve grately but the Senators, who are already a Stanley Cup team have improved grately.
I think this benefits both teams. Canes get younger and quicker and Corvo has a bomb from the point the Canes were desperately needing. Losing Stillman and his scoring ability could prove costly since Canes are struggling to find the net. But he's on the latter part of his career. Both he and Commodore are sleds. I can out skate them. Commodore was good for size and being physical but he got schooled by quicker forwards and takes dumb penalties. Even trade.
Like most fans, I too will miss Commie and Stiller but remember them fondly for all the memories they helped create. This move by Jim Rutherford means that the management has the will to compete and gives me a glimmer of hope for a playoff spot. Let's hope Mr. Rutherford's savy pays off again as it did with the Weight and Recchi trades. Go 'Canes!!!
I am shocked to see that Stillman's been traded, but let's face it, Rutherford had to do something. We needed a puck moving defenseman like Corvo, so that much makes sense. I can only wonder if Rutherford was planning on letting these guys go in the offseason anyway. Eaves sounds a lot like Ladd to me: physical player with scoring potential that gets hurt alot. It's only worth the gamble if Stillman was totally out of their future plans.
Rutherford has said many times in recent weeks that you have to give up alot to get something in return. This trade proves that statement. But it really is a smart trade by one of, if not THE, best GMs in the league. Stillman was not going to be back next year, period. To get a young prospect with some NHL games under his belt for a guy that wasn't in your plans is a great move.
The play of Tim Gleason, Bret Hedican (since his return), Glen Wesley and Nick Wallin (PLEASE STAY HEALTHY) sure makes it easier to part with Commodore, and Corvo should certainly help the power play and the pace of the game 5 on 5. And he has a great shot...Patrick Eaves is one of those guys that everybody hates to play against but loves to have on their team. He is like taking Larose's energy and Andrew Ladd's offensive ability and putting them into one little ball of hate. Now, if he can just stay healthy...
This trade should also be seen as a message to the rest of the team that (a) the front office is dedicated to bettering the team and (b) no one is immune from being traded-and not all trades send you to a contender like the Sens! This team has the skill to go deep in the playoffs-they just need to focus and execute.
I think this will benefit
I think this will benefit the Canes. They needed a guy like Curvo and Eaves should develope into a good player if we can re-sign him. Good luck to Stillman and Cmie. Both will be missed.
