Al Gore Shares Nobel Peace Prize
hal990

It was announced today that Al Gore is to share the Nobel Peace Prize with the U.N. Committee on Climate Control.

I posted a forum topic on this, but it seems like blogs get more reads, so feel free to respond in either place. Or both :)

At the risk of heating up an already overheated planet, what do y'all think of this? Deserved? Travesty? Weigh in with your opinion.

Dirty Politics in Cary this Morning
hal990

As I went to get my coffee this morning, I saw the landscaping workers taking down all the candidate signs in the Parkway community! I was immediately suspicious. And, frankly, miffed. Picture here.

One of the Mexican workers (apolitical to a man) gave me the name of his supervisor at Wakefield Landscaping, a gentleman by the name of Kerry (919-422-6383). He explained that he’d been instructed to removed the signs by Omega Management. Called them. George (919 461-0102) at Omega told me he’d been instructed to remove the signs by the Parkway Community Association.

Eiffel Tower - the Real Deal

Alison Smale's story about the Eiffel Tower in today's N&O reads like a generic travel guide. Here's the real deal:

  1. Just so ya know, the line to ascend the Tower can be two or more hours long. Honestly, there are better things to do in Paris than wait on a massive line for the honor of spending beaucoup bucks on a tourist trap.
  2. The roof of the Pompidou Center offers a marvelous view of Paris. It's free with your admission to the museum.
  3. The Arc de Triomphe also has a rooftop oberservation deck. No line.
  4. Notre Dame has an observation deck as well. Not much of a wait except on holidays like Easter.
  5. No one with bad knees or a heart condition should even consider the stairs up the Eiffel Tower. Ditto small kids. It's a grueling hike.

Here's an alternative to really appreciate the power and beauty of La Tour Eiffel:
