If the N&O wants us to comment, then please make the user interface more user-friendly. I entered a comment and just kept typing because I didn't see any notice about word limit. When I went to submit my comment, it told me that it was too long and to cut it shorter... where? Just add a word counter and tell me how many words I can enter. I don't want to write a book, but this is the Web, and you can give us a fair amount of words.
I have HBP and I also have a chronic disease. I see a Doctor at Duke and I see my Primary Doctor in Raleigh.
I have a blood pressure monitor at home and take my blood pressure at home and at the Wellness center. My primary doctors practice just started using the Web again. I can email for appointments, medical records, and to ask the doctor a question. It is so much easier than me waiting on hold or having to leave messages.
Duke already has a Web site where I can get my medical records, pay bills, and make appointments. And before the Web site was active, I asked for my records after every office visit, MRI, and x-rays. It is my right to have access to my records. And I urge everyone to get copies of their records. You will be amazed at what you will find in your records (wrong information, lack of information, spelling mistakes (thanks to them being transcribed in India)).
We're tenting tonight on the old camp ground,
Give us a song to cheer
Our weary hearts, a song of home,
And friends we love so dear.
Many are the hearts that are weary tonight,
Wishing for the war to cease;
Many are the hearts that are looking for the right
To see the dawn of peace.
Tenting tonight, tenting tonight, tenting on the old camp ground
We've been tenting tonight on the old camp ground,
Thinking of days gone by,
Of the loved ones at home that gave us the hand
And the tear that said "Goodbye!"
We are tired of war on the old camp ground,
Many are dead and gone,
Of the brave and true who've left their homes,
Others been wounded long.
We've been fighting today on the old camp ground,
Many are lying near;
Some are dead and some are dying,
Many are in tears.
Many are the heart that are weary tonight,
Wishing for the war to cease;
Many are the hearts that are looking for the right
To see the dawn of peace
Dying tonight, dying tonight, dying on the old camp ground.
I try to shop local, but that isn't always possible. And by local, I mean non-chain stores. But if you are a local store and don't give me good customer service, I will not shop in your store. If you do not keep up your inventory, I will not shop in your store. If you say you will special order something and don't, then I will not be back.
My rave for the best customer service goes to Logan's at Seaboard Station. They have the best selection, knowledgeable staff, and a fun atmosphere. And now they are offering a reward program. Also, Seaboard Station is a nice destination now. Great places to eat (Tookies, J. Betski's and a Chinese place opening soon I hope). Parking is now a challenge at peak times and sometimes people park where they shouldn't, like in the Handicap spots or in the path of traffic. I wish and hope that some of these new strip mall areas that are sprouting up on 401 north will turn into a cool spot like Seaboard.
There was an article recently that showed how the Memorial Auditorium downtown looked over the years. The facade with the columns remind me of the Worcester Memorial Auditorium. I haven't looked it up, but I suspect that the same architect designed these auditoriums.
The Worcester Auditorium has had many lives. My HS graduation was held there. Concerts, plays etc. The High Holiday services for my reform temple were held here. In the back, they made a small theater that was used for Childrens' plays.
Route 146 connects Providence RI to Worcester MA. It is now a 4 lane highway that used to end just outside of Worcester. They connected the Mass Turnpike to that end of 146 and now 146 connects up with Route 290, which runs through Worcester.
They built several bridges over the new highway to connect roads that never used to go through, or for walkovers. But the nice thing they did was to paint them different colors:
This is a red one. They did blue, purple and green too.
There is a new "New York" or "Jewish" deli opening at the Falls River shopping area. We have been promised real deli several times and our hopes have been dashed. I hope this new place will come through. If they need a taste tester consultant, they can email me :0) and I can steer them in the right direction.
But, if you want real deli (Jewish and non-), you still have to go north. We stopped at Harold's Deli in Edison NJ on the way home from Massachusetts a few weeks ago. It is right off the Garden State and New Jersey Turnpikes (exit 10). The GPS took us right there! The last time we tried to get there we got lost LOL.
We just got back from a week in Massachusetts. The trash along 95 got better in some states and was worse or about the same as here. So, it isn't just a problem here.
Connecticutt had the cleanest highways. But maybe that is because they had No littering signs posted every 1000 feet it seemed. And the fines were listed as $200 - $1000.00. I don't see any signs anywhere around here.
I noticed that the Inmates were back out picking up litter, but it doesn't do any good. Driving down Fox Road today there were McDonalds (and possibly Burger King etc) wrappers, cups, french fry containers etc. There are empty soda bottles. The mattresses on 540 near Capital Blvd. are still there. There is a pile of carpet or carpet pads on 401 near Ligon Mill.
I miss the CIO daily column. Page 2 is just not the same in the daily life section. CIO only on friday is just not the same. I wondered why my blood pressure has gone up in the last month or so and I think I know why now. CIO is gone. PLEASE bring it back, or I may have to take its place.
I entered the Fresh Start contest and the Drought diary contest and didn't win either, but I never got an acknowledgement that my email was received and was never told that I didn't win... all it takes is a form email. We are redoing our bonus room on our own now... my husband is a saint and doing a great job. Will blog our progress.
I was finishing up a t-shirt quilt on Thursday for a customer. It is for her daughter who attends UNC. One of the t-shirts said Carolina girls... on the front and said ...best in the world on the back. I combined them in photoshop:
In memory of Eve Carson.
When I went to college, the most we had to worry about was what we would have for dinner if the selection in the dining hall was bad. We could walk alone at night to our dorms. We did have to lock our doors, but we didn't need a key to get into the bathrooms. It is a sad reflection on society.
