Adopt-A-Ship

ShipChef
| | | | |

This blog will document my newest adventure with the Navy and a program called Adopt-A-Ship. This is my second "assignment" through this program that pairs professional chefs with a Navy ship or base for training from a civilian point of view. This a completely voluntary program, but one that I think is a great opportunity for those of us that would like to support our troops in a very unique way.

As of today, I am scheduled to depart Raleigh on Friday July 27 on the initial leg of what will be three weeks spent aboard the guided missile destroyer John S. McCain (DDG 56). The McCain's command is located in Yokosuka, Japan which is just south of Tokyo. We are to begin the "underway" from this port. I will report in when I can. Internet accessibilty in the western Pacific is something that will be new to me. I've been told to expect slow and spooty service.

Stay tuned...

Great Job!

Chef Hadley,

As one who has benefited from your teaching, I'm sure the Navy cooks will learn a great deal. The sailors on board the John S. McCain will undoubtedly be eating much better. You are a great teach and a true chef!

Best of luck,

Michael

Thank you Chef Hadley

As someone who has greatly benefited from your teaching, I am very confident the cooks aboard the John S. McCain will be producing much better meals after working with you. Thank you for your selfless support of those protecting our country. You are a wonderful teacher, and a true chef.

Thanks again,

Michael Breslin

Bon Voyage, Sayonara, etc.

Have fun, bro -- see you in August!

How wonderful!

What a wonderful way to let our military know how much we think of them and wish them well!

God Bless you, Chef Hadley!

My sailor is onboard!

Chef Hadley, I have a son on the Uss John S McCain. I emailed him to ask how the food is. He said he is happy you are onboard and that the dishes have been very good. I appreciate what you are doing too. It is great for morale and knowing those back in the USA remember these guys! I'll continue to read to see how you enjoy the exercises.

And a pretty cool guy too

Hi Chef Jeff,
I have to skip this winter semester but I look forward to continuing in the Spring. Ooh, and do you know yet if your Garte Manger I and II will indeed be combined in time for fall semester?

Say hi to Marky-Mark for me. Be sure to read him this little poem I just found online:

"Pariah dogs and wandering madmen
Barking at strangers and speaking in tongues
The ebb and flow of tidal fortune
Electrical changes are charging up the young

It's a far cry from the world we thought we'd inherit
It's a far cry from the way we thought we'd share it
You can almost feel the current flowing
You can almost see the circuits blowing

One day I feel I'm on top of the world
And the next it's falling in on me
I can get back on
I can get back on
One day I feel I'm ahead of the wheel,
And the next it's rolling over me
I can get back on
I can get back on...."

Also tell him to go to RUSH.com and in the multimedia section to click on the "our biggest fans" clip. I thought I saw him in there... ;-)

Cheers, and Happy New Year!
